Not quite ducky yet...
I wish I could show more progress on this little tapestry, but I have not gotten in as much weaving time as I'd have liked this week. The deadline for sending it to the Enchanted Pathways exhibit is creeping up on me, though, so soon it will have to 'paddle' it's way to the very top of the old priority list.
Yesterday I spent part of the day baking little Blue Pig cookies, for the Project Linus reception at the Blue Pig Gallery this afternoon. They are yummy and, quite oddly, pork free!
Today, I was at the gallery all day. I took the duck-on-the-loom and a basket of yarn with me, with high hopes that I might get a bit of weaving in, as it was snowing (again!) and I thought I might have a quiet day. Not. It was not a busy day, like summer days there are, but traffic was pretty constant, and there were enough other tasks to do to keep me quite busy the entire day. No weaving done, again.
I shot this photo of Gus this morning, as he was looking through the sitting room lace under-curtains, clearly thinking, "MORE SNOW? REALLY?" He gets to go outside and graze on grass, when there is grass to graze on, but hates snow on his paws and thinks this winter has gone on quite long enough, too. I like the back-lighting of the photo.

Sunday on the snowy East Coast 2/7/10 8:18am......you have no clue how very inspirational this duck tapestry photo is....I blew it up larger to fit my computer screen.....what a small miracle of over/under, over/under filling in small bits of color to compose a unified whole....all,of course, taking infinite patience...I wonder in this complexity how often you find yourself in the wrong shed and then what you do about it....you cannot possibly have the three bobbin routing going on in such small shots of color.....thank you for this helpful photo....from Janet
Little blue pig cookies - Well I never! Where in the world did you get the cookie cutter???
Your little duckie will be some kind of woderful! Now what can we do with Booker to give you time.... Another sacrificial rug?
as a beginner, I echo Janet's remarks and question, too...how often does it happen that you are in the wrong shed and how do you correct? The duck is truly inspiring; my work is a mess, but your work makes me want to press on! Thank you. for that and for the wonderful photos of your work.
On a tapestry this small, and with such fiddly little bits to be woven at this scale, I shape weave them, and do not worry over-much about the weft direction. There are times when the weft IS going the wrong way to cover the warp, but I will then just pop it under a few warp threads and start it back the other way. I just watch to make sure I don't double cover the warp, or miss a warp thread. Sometimes I do this 'creative correcting' without even being aware of it.
