IF: Equipment

Finally, it was the equipment carrier's day off! This is posted for Illustration Friday's topic of the week, 'Equipment.'

It is a small oil on canvas sketch, 5x7 inches.

Added note: I am thinking of offering canvas prints of some of my paintings that have sold. If I do that, do you think there would be an interest? Should I just sell them locally in the gallery, or online as well? And, if online, does anyone have experience or suggestions as to where it would be best to do that (my own website, Etsy.com, or eBay)? Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

I always enjoy how you illustrate the Illustration Friday topic of the week. Like the painting, too. Selling: Some artists that I know about use a blog along with Paypal to sell their art. Seems to work for them. Not sure if price points have anything to do with it or not.

Hi Kathy,

I think selling prints of your work is a fantastic idea. In the past (pre-tapestry) I have sold things through both Etsy & Ebay. I think Etsy is the way to go. There are small fees related to using Etsy & Paypal, but I seem to remember that the Etsy fees were less than the Ebay ones. Also, the format of Etsy will allow you to present your works in a much more attractive manner than Ebay (which I think really matters when you are selling ART vs. THINGS). I also believe that when shopping Etsy it is understood that one is shopping for handcrafted art, while on Ebay one is shopping for "deals". Just my 2 cents, but hope it is helpful!

Thanks, I'm looking into both eBay and Etsy.

The donkey in undergoing major changes. he and I have not been happy with each other from the very beginning! I will see if he will conform to my wishes, or will continue being a stubborn 'ass.'

I think Etsy would be the best avenue also. Would love to see what you will be selling.

Charming donkey!
I've been wondering the same thing, though I think I might stick to selling "originals" only. But canvas prints can be offered and THEN ordered and delivered. As I recall there was little advantage to ordering multiple copies!

Selling your works online is a great idea - I would also suggest Etsy. I tend to think that eBay is better if you have less of an online presence. Because of your blog, you have quite a following, and that will help to give you more success with Etsy (some sellers have a bit of a tough time getting visibility with Etsy).

String Theory

Ok, I don’t know anything about string theory, except maybe what I see on The Big Bang. But there is an excellent fiber exhibit right now ...
