I began this 16x20" painting of my grandson at work at the gallery a week and a half ago. I have it now to the point that it needs to dry, then I'll assess any needed changes. What I love about the scene/image (other than the adorable child) is the brightness of the colors. But I'm wondering if I have made the sand too bright?

I guess it depends on what you were going for. The brightness implies contentment, happiness and digging for treasure to me. You could have a more dull sand, but will it say what you want it to?
My first thought on viewing the painting, before reading any of your post was "what wonderful, bright colors". You make your own decision on the sand color. You know WAY better than I do, but I love it!
